Painted at Graffiato Street Art Festival Taupo - the theme of this mural is to honor the people of the Tūwharetoa Iwi. The Kahu is their kaitiaki (guardian), the 3 maunga (Tongariro, Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe) are represented using the kaokao pattern. The sacred maunga/mountains (grey), lake Taupo (dark blue), Iwi (greens) & the people (red/black) are a graphic interpretation. On Friday 4th of December we officially will be presenting BIRDGANG - not only an art exhibition but an experience of who we are & what we do.  The past 20 years has been a journey of self discovery as artists' & more recently the last 5 focussed on who we are as Māori.  As we drove to Hastings over the Christmas holidays a few years back, three seperate Kereru flew over us as we talked about the direction we wanted to go painting birds & they were a sign to us that the journey we were travelling on...

4 days until the show & we are on time can you believe it!  Miraculous I know but creatives do somehow have the ability to pull off the impossible sometimes & actually be running to plan - thats probably because we have the most amazing guy Glenn Taylor from Artrite Screen Printing helping us out & directing our work at times.  It has been busy but fun, working together every day is an amazing balance of support & insight into both of our art practises.  We chat about everything, look over each othe...
